On May 1, the state standard of Ukraine 8820-4:2025 "Mine Action. Management Processes. Part 4. Mechanized Demining Processes" will come into force. This document introduces the key principles and requirements for the use of mechanized demining equipment (hereinafter referred to as MZR) during the clearance of territories from mines and other remnants of war.
The document regulates the use of various mechanized means—from soil processing machines to UAVs for detecting explosive devices. It also establishes the requirements for the training and certification of operators who manage the MZR, and it details safety measures for the operation of the equipment, including remote and autonomous control.
This standard aligns the national regulatory framework with the international IMAS (International Mine Action Standards).
The standard was developed by experts from the Main Directorate for Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, along with other stakeholders in the field of mine action. The Ukrainian Research and Training Center for Standardization Issues approved the state standard on March 7, 2025.
